Our school Chaplain provides social, emotional and spiritual support for the school. Scripture Union Queensland (SU) chaplains are present in schools at the invitation of the Principal, in consultation with the community and support from the P and C Association.
A school Chaplain is a safe person for young people to connect with at school and provides a listening ear, caring presence and a message of hope. Other roles of the chaplain include:
- Working with members of the school's support team
- Caring for students experiencing difficulty with relationships with other children or family members
- Support students with poor self-esteem, family breakdown and/or depression
- Run positive, fun activities for students to assist with fostering supportive, caring school communities.
The partnership between the school and the Chaplaincy service is also supported by local churches, businesses and community organisations. This provides a supportive network of assistance.
The Chaplaincy service is available to everyone in the school community (parents, students, teachers and staff) regardless of their religious beliefs. Students may request to talk to the Chaplain on an individual basis for support with personal matters. Parental permission is required.
