Laptop Setup
Once you unbox your laptop and turn it on, you will be prompted with the initial Windows 11 setup. The setup is self guiding and easy to follow along.
Please follow these rules during installation:
Set up Windows with a personal email account, not your child's school EQ account.
Use a password that is 8 characters or longer otherwise you will be forced to set a new password after onboarding.
It is recommended that the personal account you use to sign in is a parents account to prevent loss of access to the computer if a password is forgotten. If you do this, you will need to make a second account for the student with their own personal account.
Before BYOD devices can connect to our secure school network, they must be enrolled with Microsoft Intune. This process will need to be completed for each device, so if your student changes or upgrades their device in the future, please follow these steps again.
Before onboarding
You will need to have your school email address and the password that is used to login to the computers at school. If you need a password reset contact your teacher.
Your computer must be running Windows 11 and it can't be in S Mode. Click Here External link to visit Microsoft help on disabling S Mode.
The account you are using must have Administrator rights, this is generally the default account that comes with the laptop.
The computer must be connected to the internet.
Don't install any security software until after the computer has been onboarded.
Do not sign in with your child's school email account when initially setting up the laptop. The laptop should be set up with a personal account.
The windows account you have signed into prior to onboarding will be the account your child uses. If that account is owned by another person, your child will have access to this account, if you do not want this either use a different windows account or create a new local account.
