The suburb of ‘ROBERTSON’ was officially named in July 1967.

Doctor William Nathaniel Robertson was a member of the University of Queensland Senate. With the opening of Griffith University in 1967, authorities believed in naming new suburbs in close proximity to the University with a name linked to the history of the University of Queensland. Nathan, Macgregor and Griffith are all names associated with the history of the University of Queensland.

School History

The opening of Robertson State School marked the establishment of the third new school in as many years in this area, to provide education for the growing numbers of families and to attempt to distribute school enrolment.

On the first day of operation - Tuesday 29 January 1980 - the enrolment was 124.  The Robertson State Preschool Centre opened a fortnight later with an initial enrolment of 26.

The school was officially opened by the Minister for Education, the Honourable V.J. Bird, M.L.A. on 6 September 1980.

The school uniform uses the Scottish Robertson Hunting Tartan.

The school house names of Angus, Stewart and Duncan are all associated with Scottish clans.

The school badge is based on the Robertson Clan Coat of Arms whose motto was 'Virtuosi Gloria Merces' - 'Glory is the reward of valour'.  A copy of this is hung in the Administration foyer.

The Robertson School Motto is 'Achievement Through Effort'.

Robertson Activities Centre - History

A ten year dream came to fruition in 1999 with the opening of our Activities Centre.  The project was a result of a partnership between the Robertson Gymnastics Club, the Parents and Citizens’ Association and their respective government departments.  Education Queensland had the facility valued for $1.6 million for stage one.

By far the most remarkable contribution was made by parents and generous friends of the school who made cash donations of up to $20 000 each in three short campaigns in 1995, 1996 and in 1999. These contributions, including borrowings, totalled over $845 000.

This building represents the culmination of the first twenty years of achievement by a school community dedicated to the education of our students.
