At Robertson State School, the Australian Curriculum shapes teaching and learning. It is designed to help our students become successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens.
The Australian Curriculum has a three-dimensional design that recognises the importance of the traditional learning areas including each of their disciplinary knowledge, skills and understanding alongside general capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities. In the early years, priority is given to literacy and numeracy development as the foundations for further learning. As students make their way through the primary years, they focus more on the knowledge, understanding and skills of all eight learning areas. The eight learning areas of the Australian Curriculum are:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Health and Physical Education (specialist teachers)
- Technologies
- Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS)
- The Arts (specialist teachers in Music)
- Languages (Chinese) (specialist teachers)
At Robertson State School, students are taught, assessed, and reported on in these subjects/learning areas in accordance with Department of Education Policy, and their outcomes are measured against the achievement standard at each juncture (year or band, depending on the subject). At a school level, we plan to deliver a localised curriculum that ensures all students have opportunities to engage in meaningful learning.
Robertson State School provides students with the opportunity to complete their Primary school study via the Chinese Bilingual pathway from Year 1 to Year 6. The Robertson State School Chinese Bilingual Program also implements the Australian Curriculum through Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) for selected classes from Year 1 – Year 5 2022 and Year 6 2023 using high yield evidence based bilingual teaching and learning practices.
