Prep at Robertson State School
Starting school is an exciting milestone, but it can also bring a sense of uncertainty for both children and parents. At Robertson State School, we are committed to ensuring a smooth transition into your child's schooling life. Our Prep program focuses on building strong foundations for lifelong learning, nurturing confidence, and setting your child up for future success. We work closely with families and the local community to create a supportive, welcoming environment where every child can thrive from day one.
We understand that the early years of schooling are essential for a child's development, which is why our Transition to School Program provides integrated support to ease the adjustment process. By partnering with families and early childhood services, we ensure that your child's transition to school is as smooth and positive as possible. At Robertson State School, we are dedicated to making this important time a memorable and exciting experience, fostering a love of learning that will last a lifetime.
Key aspects of the Prep transition program include:
- Pre-Prep Storytelling Sessions: Held weekly in the Robertson Library during Term 3 and Term 4. These sessions invite future Prep students to engage with stories, play themed games, and participate in activities that enhance creativity and literacy skills. They also offer a chance to meet peers and become familiar with the school environment and staff.
- Pre-Prep Interviews: Small group interviews held at the end of Term 3, help staff understand each child's unique needs through fun, play-based activities. Parents also receive guidance from the Deputy Principal on how to support their child's transition to school.
- Pre-Prep Orientation Session: This two-hour session provides both parents and students with insights into school life. While parents attend an informative session, children engage in hands-on learning activities with our Prep teachers in Prep classrooms, to get a feel for their future school experience.
- Pre-Prep Playgroups: In Term 4, children are invited to participate in playgroup sessions that allow them to familiarise themselves with the school, meet teachers and peers, and practice essential social and learning skills. Parents also have the chance to connect with one another and form a supportive community.
Through these initiatives, Robertson State School aims to ensure a positive, exciting, and successful start to each child's educational journey.
